The food here is excellent IF YOU ORDER THE RIGHT THINGS. I saw a lot of people coming to the restaurant ordering American food when the speciality is Danish food! We ordered the sausage platter, ableskevier, and the Danish breakfast. Overall the food was amazing. All the sausages were delicious, the ham and cheese, and eggs were great, and the ableskevier was SOOOO good. 100% recommend but stick to what they are made for!

When in Solvang, one must taste danish food. What better place to go than Solvang Restaurant. I'm sure the name itself makes this place very popular for the tourists. While the restaurant seemed really busy that day we went, the wait wasn't too long. Once seated, the menu is big with many options to choose from. But of course you come here for danish food. For me I got the danish dip sandwich which I thought was just okay. Meat was a little dry but the dip was yummy. My wife got the combination plate that had a danish meatball and sausage and she said it was very good. I agreed and she let me take a bite. Son's cheeseburger was delicious, he was happy! And of course we had to try the ableskivers which didn't disappoint at all! Highly recommend it! Overall I would say Solvang Restaurant is worth the visit if you are looking to try danish food, just wouldn't recommend the danish dip sandwich.

A very casual fast service restaurant to try good Danish dishes. Service was with a smile with no time wasted. Photos everywhere as a resource for what to order and enjoy the local flavor the town has to offer. A good experience while in Solvang.

This is one of the more-notable places to visit for a traditional trio of aebleskivers when in town. The restaurant opens early (7:00 a.m.) - but closes early, as well. For this reason, my review is only for the aforementioned Danish treats (since we passed by about 5-minutes before their 3:00 p.m. closing time). The menu of breakfast and lunch items looked delicious - and undoubtedly showcases the Danish fare for which Solvang owes its renowned status. I really wish I could have been able to try more of their offerings but felt it unfair to arrive so near closing time and expect to be seated - though we were not dissuaded from entering for our to-go aebleskiver order. I do note, however, that the "closed" sign was promptly flipped over at the appointed hour. (We were still outside the restaurant at that time). What can I say? It was an aebleskiver - but, in a town with such a wide variety of freshly baked, enticingly decorated goodies in virtually every window, it hit me as neither the pinnacle of culinary greatness for the palette nor the eye. (Maybe an upgrade to the version with ice cream could have possibly "wow-ed" me to a greater degree?) I hope this isn't taken as Danish blasphemy, but it was just okay. I honestly believe if our group would have been able to sample more of their menu, I could have increased my rating to five stars, but I'm holding at a four-star rating for now. It's really not the fault of the business that they closed at their advertised time, so I'll just have save a bump in rating for my next visit (and an earlier arrival time). I look forward to both that day AND what I anticipate will be a positive revision.

Tried an aebleskiver at the storefront for $4.90! Danish pancake in a ball! Yummy, warm, thick, with a hollow center doused in raspberry jam and powdered sugar

Been going here since my family moved to AG in '95, from the Bay Area. Located right on the main drag, Copenhagen, is Solvang restaurant. The funny thing is what we always do, is order from the outdoor window many orders of aebleskivers, go to a bench/stand on the street and go to TOWN! Fast and easy service. The AEBLESKIVER taking a pancake, turning it into a ball, adding wonderful, homemade jam and then hit it with powder sugar. The cakey/dough of the aebleskiver, the tart/sweetness of the fresh jam and then that sweet hit of powdered sugar, makes for a great treat. Our family drives from Atascadero, on a whim! If you haven't tried, go and treat yourself! *This time the Aebleskiver could've been fresher and wish they would've put more jam*

4 stars for just the aebleskiver (Danish pancake balls). I ordered 3 pieces for $4.90 at the takeout only window, and the employee was really nice. If you ask for your order to-go, you'll get a container that closes. The aebleskivers were topped with raspberry jam and powdered sugar. I thought that aebleskiver meant "apple slices", but there was nothing inside. Each ball had a crispy crust on the outside without being oily. The taste was like a cross between cornbread and pancake. It was surprisingly more savory than sweet and dense like a hush puppy. The runny raspberry jam was a welcome addition, flavorful and not too sweet. My order was the last of an old batch of aebleskivers, but it tasted perfectly fine. The balls weren't stale after sitting under the heat lamp. Maybe I got lucky with the timing; it seemed like one batch sold out within 30 minutes during lunchtime.
